FEMME NOIR
Born in Vietnam and raised in Oregon and California, Designer Phong Hong studied fashion in Los Angeles, where he received a Fashion Design Degree from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) and was selected for the Advanced Study Fashion Design Program. He wanted to learn the different mediums of art and received a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from the University of California, Berkeley. His desire to pursue a career in fashion design led him to travel to Europe and Asia, where he was inspired by timeless pieces found in vintage shops.
Through his work experiences in fashion, Phong has honed his skills in design, pattern-making and sewing his own complete garments. Phong is coupling his academic background in art with his passion for designing and launched his first label, Femme Noir by Phong Hong in 2010 for custom couture dresses which featured his Signature hand-woven Braid design, hand-crafted rosettes, feathering techniques and fabric manipulation.
With the constant desire to expand his range and challenge himself further, Phong created his next label, Femme Noir, a ready-to-wear collection that takes classic concepts and combines it with a modern silhouette to create his interpretation of an informal luxury. Phong appreciates androgyny and its complement to womenswear, which he intertwined throughout his designs. Based in Los Angeles, Phong designs for the girl whose lifestyle demands a versatile wardrobe. His new RTW collection can be worn day-to-night and are key pieces that can be paired with the items in your current wardrobe.
His designs were featured in Women's Wear Daily (WWD), Apparel News, Lauren Conrad's Style Book 2010, Lauren Conrad wearing Femme Noir on the Cover of CLEO magazine in Australia, CLEO in New Zealand and CLEO in South Africa March 2011, Ashlee Simpson wearing Femme Noir in Michigan Avenue Fashion Magazine and a cult following amongst fashion celebrities.
